It is only late at night when I'm not really tired but still thinking deeper than I usually do during the day that I realize the wisdom and discipline of my dad's words. One summer, I was working at a booth at the Taste of Chicago and I hated it; the heat, the smell, the sweat, the standing, the obnoxious customers... everything. I wanted to quit the first week I was there.

Unfortunately my dad didn't let me. He said if I quit then I'm not learning, I would only be walking away from my problems. But learn what exactly? He said to learn about myself. If I can point out what I did not like about working there then I can use it to better myself. If I hated the management, I would learn how not to run things.

Mostly I think he didn't want me to quit on my experience. I have to know "hardship" in order to appreciate life. Quitting is a temptation, merely an escape from the tangible reality.

So I won't quit this semester. There's something I have to do because God put me in the place to do it. I knew I wanted to completely take myself out ever since I stepped in. I'm still reluctant but I'll see it through for the rest of this semester...

off to school i go. boo :( arriving about an hour before my first class... what a way to start my 2nd semester. but here's my winter break in a short list (because i have a HORRIBLE memory):

starting break a week early
my first stronghold experience
dirty bingo and the wal-mart truck
sledding at gompers park
monopoly (i still feel like playing even though i suck)
super scrabble (what a gigando board)
megs and i partnering for kent haha
my Christmas day with Bo
A certain Tyrus Yamagiwa
an epiphany
LOTS of online shopping...
the bet with Kai and I vs. Tyrus and Derrick

.... ok i suck at this. i can't remember anymore. someone else can try.

the weather has been fall weather lately. i love it. Kai doesn't. i hope it stays this way.

(Son of a Witch is a great sequel to Wicked, perhaps even better. nice play on phrasing...)

mmm fondue is very yummy. but i smell like fondue oil now. booty.

hostel had a good story i must say. but i was a little queasy after the movie. it wasn't scary (well, the parts i kept my eyes open to watch), just extremely gross with one too many naked girls. jay hernandez' character escapes. now you know the movie. and i didn't even spoil it for you who's reading this; the last person standing is always the escaper. lucky him.

i wore a track jacket today with... argyle! ::gasp:: i'm not one to like wearing that kind of pattern but i got it as a gift and it fitted, i like the colors, and my obnoxiously long hair blocks the minimal strip of argyle print anyways. so there.

i need a new camera that won't take 50 years to turn on and has the same quality as my olympus. oh i wish... i think i'll start taking pictures with my olympus again. and if i weren't dangling on a string above being broke i would use my manual pentax film camera. photography is so expensive. how typical of art.

btw, does anyone have canson marker paper that they don't want anymore? how about some chalk pastels? any art supplies at all? art is stinkin expensive.

a new year survey... stolen from a stranger because i'm bored.

1. What did you do in 2005 that you'd never done before? go on a missions trip, graduate hs, went to stronghold, college, draw for 12 hours+...

2. Did you keep your new years' resolutions, and will you make more for next year? i didn't make one last year. i have one for this year though.

3. Did anyone close to you give birth? no

4. Did anyone close to you die? no

5. What countries did you visit? mexico. that's it.

6. What would you like to have in 2006 that you lacked in 2005? discipline and generosity. oh and motivation too.

7. What date from 2005 will remain etched upon your memory, and why? 04.26.05 :) and memorial day weekend camping i believe.

8. What was your biggest achievement of the year? getting decent grades in my first semester of college.

9. What was your biggest failure? something i'm working on to redeem

10. Did you suffer illness or injury? not in 2005 :)

11. What was the best thing you bought? down comforters and all my art stuff

12. Whose behavior merited celebration? i would have to say almost everyone i know

13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed? not that many but i'm over it.

14. Where did most of your money go? art supplies! oh yeah, college too since paying for my first semester already depleated my savings account.

What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you? i went to my thursday classes, talked on the phone with Tyrus, was confused by the writing that said "Happy Birthday Tanya!!!" on the dry erase board on our dorm door because Missy was sneaky and wrote it when she said she was going to go to the bathroom. i turned 19!!

32. What one thing that would have made your year? not having to worry about financial support otherwise everything else made my year.

33. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2005? thrift store tshirts over tank tops with jeans. long hair. simple enough right?

34. What kept you sane? God on so many different levels, Tyrus K!, my roomie Missy, and mia amici :) my family drove me nuts.

35. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most? none. it's too unrealistic for me.

36. What political issue stirred you the most? um...i hate politics

37. Who did you miss? everyone who's not at u of i.

38. Who was the best new person you met? "best new person"?? that's just discriminatory

39. What are you excited for in 2006? summer! counseling chi-ko i hope, and hopefully getting to drive again... and i turn the big golden 20

40. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2005: honestly... i learned that you can't survive with a selfish attitude nor an egotistic perspective on life because you only end up hurting the ones you love.

while i should be sleeping i started on making a few simple christmas cards. i love making them because they can be so personal with only a few words.

only 2 more days... but i'm not done shopping yet! and i have yet to find one specific present in any store. I have to get 5 more presents total. picking them out is hard... but i enjoy the challenge, unless you're shopping for jami then everything in any store would be well suited for her.

i also like wrapping gifts. im hoping that maybe i will run out of wrapping paper and would have to resort to using fabric to wrap some presents with.

well i guess i should sleep.

edit.. rereading the entry, i realized how dramatically my language skills have pummeled off the cliff ever since i graduated high school. so maybe using big words will stimulate that part of my brain again. har.
